The LR 1927 Project

Welcome to The LR 1927 Project, which focuses on events surrounding the lynching of John Carter in May 1927, in Little Rock, Arkansas. I have been studying lynchings in general, and this one in particular, since I learned of my great-grandfather’s involvement in the horrific event.

In August 2012, John Carter’s great-grandson George Fulton Jr. and I began working together, each on our own project, in hopes of bringing this relatively little-studied — and often very misunderstood — event into the light. We have started a newsletter about our work, which will appear here.

As we quote Edmund Burke in the newsletter, “An event has happened, upon which it is difficult to speak, and impossible to be silent.” It’s time. Journey with us.
